APMUC’s laser tattoo removal uses the ClearLift applicator on the Alma Harmony XL Pro, a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser operating at 1064nm and 532nm wavelengths (Alma Lasers Harmony XL Pro Special Edition B2B brochure, manufacturer documentation on file). The laser delivers extremely short, high-energy pulses that create a photoacoustic effect, a rapid mechanical shockwave that fragments tattoo ink particles into smaller pieces (Indian Journal of Dermatology review). Histologic studies of Q-switched Nd:YAG treatment confirm this fragmentation occurs in the dermis, with the smaller ink particles then taken up by macrophages and carried away through the lymphatic system over the following weeks (British Journal of Dermatology, 1997).
This is why tattoo removal requires multiple sessions spaced weeks apart. The laser does not erase a tattoo in a single pass. It breaks the ink down so the body can clear it, and each session targets ink remaining from the last round of clearance.

Are laser tattoo removal results permanent once ink clears?

Is the Kirby-Desai scale a guarantee of how many sessions I will need?
